I told you, I wasn’t going to leave you hanging😉.
Hello again!
How was the past week? Mine was good, Remember i said i wrote some exams, well, I got some of the results during the week and there's a story there, it is one you will like to hear. If you want the details you would have to wait till my next post😉.
For today, I will be recounting an experience I had in the kitchen
It was Friday afternoon, I was hungry! I can’t really remember what I had for breakfast I suppose bread or cereal so I thought to make a quick meal. I went into the fridge and I found some jollof rice from the day before, I put it in the microwave for about 3 minutes to warm up. I wanted something else to eat with my rice apart from meat, thankfully there was some plantain, i decided to fry some.
I picked up the frying pan, poured some oil and turned on the gas. While waiting for the oil to heat up I sliced my plantain, it was a little bit soggy but I decided to manage it like that. As soon as I was done cutting, I put the plantain in the oil to fry.
I kept on turning the plantain from side to side thinking it should decrease the frying time but no it didn't, so I turned up the heat to the highest thinking if that did not work this should right?. Before I knew it the plantain was already burning. At that very moment I had an epiphany, one I get to share with you today.
Just like I kept on turning the plantain from side to side without allowing one side to take time to fry, that’s how sometimes we rush in and out of things without learning the lessons we are meant to learn from those things.
Here is the thing, I saw the oil as the lesson i had to pass, the change I had to go through to be ready, while the side of the plantain that faced the oil was a part, an aspect of me that was undone, that wasn't ready. A part that needed to incorporate the oil and the heat to be able to move to the next side, the next phase. By the way, i used the shallow fry method.
Using myself as an example, I was writing before i started blogging, but I wasn't focused on it, I wanted to learn graphic designing as well as photography, so I kept on shifting my focus from one to the other. As a result, my writing wasn't any better than when I started, the graphic designing I delved into I wasn't making heads way and photography I was as good as an average person holding a camera. I finally picked one, writing and I keep getting better because my focus is just on it.
Faster doesn't always mean better.
Well, that’s how I ate burnt plantain with my rice that day😅😂.
That aside, can we talk about how versatile plantain is, I can think about a number of things that can be made using plantain. Talk about fried or boiled plantain, roasted plantain (boli) plantain porridge, plantain pancake, plantain fritatas, plantain bread, plantain flour.
My favorite combination is Jollof Rice and Plantain😋. I must tell you there's a way plantain just completes the meal and I love it.
To think that I fried plantain this morning 😂😂. My best combo with plantain has to be plantain and egg.
ReplyDeleteAnd the patience and careful multitasking message is something to reflect on
What a coincidence😁
DeletePlantain and egg absolutely yummy😋
Well said dolly, one way or other we have all rushed things hoping to see a good result but it always backfires 😂😂
ReplyDeleteAnyways thanks for the lesson..would remember to apply it during the week.
You're welcome. I am sure you would
DeleteBefore i read it looks like you're showing us why plantain is an all round food
ReplyDeleteAfter reading I realised I do this most times and they fail while it's in reverse in most cases.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes Dodo is the perfect one, if you think about dodo whole saying it on your head it has the moisture content that makes it soft and just nice(I just salivating on this thought)
Thanks for another interesting post they got me feeling hungry for Dodo
You're welcome!
DeleteI must confess i was really anticipating your next post and yes I'm madly in love with plantain or should I say dodo..its my favourite
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for the nutritional facts about dodo..its highly appreciated
Thank you too for reading!
DeleteWell said... Thanks for the lesson. We are your dodo, fru us well ohh 😁😂
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure
DeleteAmazing... If I have to be a jack of all trade, then I must be a master of all. Or just stick with one process until it's done. Thanks Ifedolapo👍😘
ReplyDeleteYes and yes Grace!
DeleteYou're welcome.
This particular one is for my Mom lollllll😭😂. She literally can't enjoy rice without plantain. I was like that too as a kid but not so much atm😂 But Ngl, plantain does complement the food most of the time. The only thing I can't eat it with is Noodles...Idk why but yeahh, I get nauseous from just seeing it.
ReplyDeleteThis is Great, Dolapo! And so Relatable❤️.
It's Dodo for me though😂👀
Dodo all the way.... make sure you share it with your mum too
DeleteThank you.
Opps😉......
ReplyDeleteI am not a real real plantain fan, but I take plantain anyways 😂😂.
Nice write sis😍
That's still cool regardless.
DeleteThis is relatable😂 I have had a lot of experiences like this with frying plantains (I naturally don't enjoy frying), but I never had this thought during my many unpleasant plantain frying experiences.
ReplyDeleteIn all, the lessons are precious ❤️ I'm banking them in my heart :-)
Well done Ifedolapo❤️
Awwwn.... how sweet! "I am banking them in my heart" Thank you.
DeleteYou will be suprised at how many thoughts like this i have at doing random chores like sweeping or washing plates.
My kids love plantain with egg especially my princess.but as for me I love taking it with beans. Thanks dolly babe..love the writeup.
ReplyDeleteFor a food like beans, plantain does make it make it less tedious to eat because beans isn't one of best foods😂
DeleteAmazing fun facts. Life is all about readiness to things. Thanks I'll take note of that. Btw I love plantain and beans😁 it just hits different.
ReplyDeleteThank you❤
DeleteLol. I really enjoyed this post because I'm a fellow plantain fan. I do not eat rice without plantain fa! The lesson was also passed on well.
ReplyDeleteIn life we're always in a rush, I remember the plans I had for this year all cut short by the unprecedented event called Corona. It got me thinking why am I always anxious or in a
haste when I know ultimately I cannot decide what happens the next minute?
Thank you Dolapo.
At a time I used to be like that, not wanting to eat rice because there isn't plantain and yes, we all could learn to take our time while not wasting time.
DeleteThank you for sharing your thoughts on this with me❤
I've had the dodo experience a couple of times in my life, took me a while before i realized I was doing it all wrong. By the way beans and dodo is my favorite combo, burnt or not I'm still eating that shii.
