Sibling Sonder
One of the beautiful discoveries I made during my December break was witnessing the growth and resilience of my siblings since the last time we shared the same space.
I noticed how Ebs really steps up, taking the initiative and tackling tasks like a pro—often without needing a nudge. Then there's Shally, who seems to juggle her household chores with the same commitment she puts into her eating meals; she's also embracing her unique sense of style with such confidence. And let’s not forget Eva, our beloved Oga Madam, who still embodies that amazing, vibrant spirit of a ten-year-old that I always wished I could channel.
In the back of my mind, I think I’ve always had this subtle idea that my younger sisters were meant to be cared for—sort of like delicate treasures I could lean on, but only so far. But guess what? My siblings hit me with a reality check: “Hold up, Big Sis! You’re in for a surprise!” This holiday turned into one of those enlightening moments of realization, kind of like a burst of insight that took me off guard. It was a true “sonder” experience—where you suddenly appreciate the complexities of the lives around you.
As I wrap up this post, I want to leave you with an important thought: just as you’re navigating your own growth journey, everyone around you is on their own unique path too. Embrace this reality with an open mind. Remember where each person is coming from; it will not only deepen your understanding of their experiences but also enhance your appreciation for their progress.
