Lele felt a tight knot of anticipation in his stomach as he returned home after sorting through a mountain of urgent bills with the help of his friend, Prince. The moment he stepped through the door, one name echoed in his mind: Fade. He had promised her a message, and now it was time to follow through.

Pulling out his phone, he scrolled through his notes until he found her number. His heart raced as he dialed, but the thrill quickly turned to confusion. Instead of Fade’s familiar voice, he found himself face-to-face with a torrent of Hausa being unleashed by a Mallam on the other end. Shocked, he instantly hung up, his mind racing. Surely, this had to be a mistake. He tried again, but the same fiery voice greeted him.

Panic set in. Had Fade accidentally given him the wrong number? Or worse, had she intentionally misled him? "No way," he thought, shaking his head in disbelief. “We were both vibing too well for that.”

Feeling a mix of disappointment and frustration, Lele flopped onto his bed, muttering, “What a day.” As exhaustion washed over him, sleep enveloped him quickly and deeply—a welcome escape from the whirlwind of his thoughts.

……….

"That’s how this boy slipped through my fingers, and that’s why he lingers in my mind like an unfinished song. His smile—so annoyingly beautiful—haunts me. I find myself wishing for just one more chance to see his face. Or maybe it's better this way, considering he’s chosen to keep his distance," Fade sighed, a mix of longing and frustration washing over her.

It was so easy to imagine a future with him. Just like that other guy she had been drawn to at first sight, Fade had crafted elaborate daydreams of their potential moments together; vibrant conversations, shared laughter, playful disagreements, and the inevitable reconciliations that would follow. But the speed at which her mind raced toward these fantasies made her heart skip a beat—what if people knew? Would they call her crazy or desperate? The thought made her shudder, yet the allure of the boy's memory was too captivating to resist.

In moments like that, she would often remind herself that she was a dreamer at heart—someone with a vivid imagination capable of conjuring both profound thoughts and the silliest fantasies. This essence of who she was set her apart, making it difficult for many suitors to breach the walls she had carefully constructed. She understood the importance of guarding her tender, open heart because not everyone is as they seem; danger often lurked behind charming smiles and sweet words. In a world filled with uncertainty, she remained cautious, knowing that some faces could mask the truest dangers.

“I need to start packing and put this boy out of my mind,” Fade reminded herself with a determined sigh. She was about to embark on a summer adventure to Lagos to stay with her aunt, and the thought of escaping Lele for a while felt like a breath of fresh air. As she gathered her belongings, she couldn't shake the feeling that this could be the closing chapter of a story that barely had a chance to unfold—a tale with a beginning so brief, it felt almost unreal.

Fade and Lele will be back soon
